Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a “very positive and productive” phone call with President Donald Trump and also spoke on Saturday with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Ukrainian president said in posts on X.

“We discussed opportunities to bolster our air defense, as well as concrete agreements that we are working on to ensure this,” Zelenskyy said of his conversation with Trump.

Axios, citing people with knowledge of the call, reported that Trump and Zelenskyy discussed the potential provision of U.S. Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, with no final decision made.

The U.S. has floated the possibility of providing Ukraine with the long-range missiles, prompting warnings from Moscow that such a move would further strain ties with Washington.

The talks took place ahead of a visit to the U.S. by a Ukrainian government delegation, planned for the coming week. Air defense deliveries for Ukraine will be the main topic of those meetings, Zelenskyy told reporters on Friday.

Zelenskyy congratulated Trump on his success in pushing for a Middle East peace deal, adding that if a war can be stopped in one region, then “surely other wars can be stopped as well — including the Russian war.”

The pair spoke as Russia has recently stepped up missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as winter approaches, including knocking out power and water to parts of the capital this week.

“I informed President Trump about Russia’s attacks on our energy system — and I appreciate his willingness to support us,” Zelenskyy said.

The White House declined to comment on the call.

Zelenskyy said he informed Carney about the details of the call with Trump. “We discussed specific steps that can help us defend against this and strengthen the resilience of our energy system,” Zelenskyy said.
