Television Q&A: When will 'All Creatures Great and Small' return?

You have questions. I have some answers.

Q: Do you have any information about when the next season of “All Creatures Great and Small” will be televised?

A: According to “Masterpiece” on PBS, the new, sixth season will air beginning early in 2026. The "Masterpiece" site says that in the new season, “we find our beloved Skeldale gang in a somewhat different situation as we join them in 1945, just as the war in Europe is coming to a close. We arrive back in Darrowby to veterinary advancements, expanded families, and new faces as they all look ahead to a brighter and more peaceful future. This season will see Herriot’s wonderful characters navigating the opportunities that a new world brings, a host of animals great and small, and of course, each other.” There are six episodes and a Christmas special planned.

Q: Will there be a second season of HBO’s “The Pitt” and will the head nurse (who won the Emmy) be returning? It looked like she was leaving at the end of the first season.

A: A second season is coming of the medical drama starring Noah Wyle, which won a fistful of Emmys, including for best drama series, lead drama series actor (Wyle), guest drama actor (Shawn Hatosy), casting for a drama series, and supporting drama series actress – Katherine LaNasa, who played charge nurse Dana Evans. And LaNasa will be back for Season 2.

Q: Will there be a third season for “Lioness”?

A: Yes. Paramount+ recently made it official that the show would be back, with Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman still starring. By the way, since we were talking about awards with “The Pitt,” it’s worth noting here that Kidman is a two-time Emmy winner, as a star and executive producer on “Big Little Lies.” And both she and Saldaña have Oscars — with Saldaña having won hers earlier this year, for best supporting actress in “Emilia Pérez.”

Q: I have been trying to find an airing for “The Gangster Chronicles,” which first aired in the 1980s. It starred Michael Nouri, Joe Penny, Brian Benben and Markie Post. Can you help me?

A: Originally airing for 13 episodes in 1981, the NBC series presented dramatized stories of real-life mobsters Lucky Luciano (played by Nouri) and Bugsy Siegel (Penny), and composite character Michael Lasker (Benben). “The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows” says the show was inspired by the success of the first two “Godfather” movies and that “it combined slam-bang action with a portrait of the hoods as real — though not necessarily very pleasant — people, and as products of their environment.”

Unfortunately, I have not found it airing on streaming services. All the episodes are on YouTube, although they don’t always look great. Amazon.com lists a DVD it says has the series, but the running time looks too short and some buyers say it is actually a separate documentary program with the same name.
