'Heated Rivalry' musical parody coming to off-Broadway

NEW YORK — HBO Max’s steamy hockey sensation “Heated Rivalry” is getting the musical treatment as it skates toward off-Broadway.
“Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody” will open May 12 at The Club at 530 West 27th St., formerly The McKittrick Hotel, where it will enjoy an eight-week run, according to a press release.
The production, helmed by Alan Kliffer with music, lyrics, and a book from Dylan MarcAurele, “follows starry-eyed golden boy Shane Hollander on his journey from power center to power bottom,” per the release.
Shane will be played by Jimin Moon, while Jay Armstrong Johnson will take on the role of Ilya Rozanov.
Based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” novels, the first season traces the better part of a decade for burgeoning hockey stars Shane and Ilya, who keep facing off on the ice while falling for each other behind the scenes.
The “hot and steamy” musical, meanwhile, promises to help fans “relive all of the moments from the show that made you wet (with tears) up close on the small-stage by an incredible cast of Broadway actors who thought they were auditioning to be in Season 2.”
Jacob Tierney’s “Heated Rivalry” quickly became a phenomenon — as did Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, who respectively star as Shane and Ilya — following its U.S. premiere over Thanksgiving weekend.
