Aaron Sorkin is "not trying to persuade" movie fans.

The 65-year-old filmmaker has helmed The Social Reckoning, the follow-up to 2010's The Social Network - but Aaron insists he's not trying to impose his own politics on cinemagoers.

He told The Independent: "I don't have a political agenda. I am not trying to persuade you of anything. I am trying to captivate you for however long I've asked for your attention in a dark theater."

The Social Reckoning explores the 2021 Facebook leak by the whistleblower Frances Haugen and Jeff Horwitz.

But Aaron has rubbished the idea that it's a political movie.

He explained: "Obviously, [The Social Reckoning] is dealing with something serious, but we're not asking you to eat your vegetables. It's not Homework: The Movie.

"Before a movie can be anything else - before it can be relevant, before it can be thought provoking - it has to be good. Not just today, but 50 years from now, it has to work as something that you watch while you're eating popcorn."

Aaron wanted to be an actor during his younger years, but he ultimately felt more comfortable working behind the camera.

He shared: "I didn't realise it at the time, but while my classmates were learning how to act, it was going into a different part of my brain.

"I was learning what a play was. And when I got out of school and tried writing dialogue for plays, for the first time, I had a confidence with it I'd never felt as an actor."

Meanwhile, Jesse Eisenberg previously admitted that he rejected the chance to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning as he is "moving in different directions in (his) life".

The actor famously played the tech billionaire in The Social Network, but he opted against reprising the role for Aaron's sequel.

Speaking to Variety, Jesse said: "It's an honour to speak to Aaron in any capacity, because he's so articulate and charming and so bright.

"We talked about doing the movie for several days. The way Aaron speaks, he speaks so wonderfully, as he writes that, in a way, if you're not going to do something with him, it feels like you're letting down America.

"I just told him I'm moving in different directions in my life."
