DENVER — A Colorado judge on Thursday sentenced U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert’s eldest son to 20 days in jail for violating the terms of his probation in a credit card and identity theft case in Garfield County.

Police arrested Tyler Boebert, 21, in 2024 after investigators connected him to a string of car break-ins and stolen credit cards that were used to buy food, diesel and other items in Rifle.

He pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft, a felony, in that case, and a Garfield County judge handed down a deferred sentence, which came with the chance to have the felony charge dismissed if he completed two years of supervised probation.

But he was again arrested and charged with child abuse in Weld County in 2025 after his child got out of the house while unsupervised. Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor child abuse that did not cause injury, and last week a judge sentenced him to another 20-day jail sentence that will be served at the same time as his Garfield County sentence, likely in a work release program.

He is also charged with child sexual exploitation in Garfield County for an explicit video police say he filmed with a 17-year-old girl when he was 18. Those charges did not factor into his Garfield County sentencing because he is presumed innocent, Judge Elise Myer said Thursday.

Lauren Boebert spoke on her son’s behalf at Thursday’s hearing and said while Tyler has not done everything right, he is not a bad man.

“Your Honor, mercy is yours to decide today,” she said. “I’m not asking you to ignore this violation. I’m asking that the punishment leave room for him to be and continue to become the father I know that he is and will be. He has a son that needs him.”

Tyler Boebert also addressed the court and apologized to the victims, his family and the community that “has shown me grace.”

“I cannot change my past actions but I can take responsibility for them and work to prevent them from happening again. I know that rebuilding trust takes time and consistent action,” he said.

While the Garfield County District Attorney’s Office argued that Tyler Boebert should be sentenced to community corrections, Myer said she did not think it was an appropriate sentence and noted he will have a felony conviction on his record as part of the consequences of his actions.

Myer urged him to not understate things he was struggling with and accept help that was available.

“In my opinion the best way forward is through, and you’re just going to have to address some things head on,” she said.
