BOULDER, Colo. — Kansas basketball coach Bill Self will not coach Tuesday night’s game against Colorado, KU Athletics has announced.

KU assistant Jacque Vaughn, former head coach of the Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic, will take over head coaching duties for the game, as Self will remain in Lawrence following a health episode Monday.

In a statement Monday evening, a KU Athletics spokesperson said Self had been hospitalized after feeling “under the weather.” Self provided an update on his health Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m feeling much better and I want to thank the well-wishers and the great team at LMH Health,” Self said in a news release. “I’ll be sitting out tonight’s game, and as I’ve said before, we have an elite coaching staff at KU, and I know our players are in good hands in Boulder.

“Jacque Vaughn will serve as the acting head coach tonight. He will rely on our great group of coaches, Jeremy Case, Kurtis Townsend, Joe Dooley and Tony Bland, throughout the game to lead the team.”

There is no news at this time on Self’s availability for KU’s game against Kansas State on Saturday in Manhattan, Kan., and no details at this time regarding Self’s health situation aside from his statement.

The KU Athletics statement Monday read:

“Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self felt under the weather earlier today and, out of an abundance of caution, was taken to LMH Health where he received IV fluids. He is feeling better but did not accompany the team to Boulder.”
