TAMPA, Fla. — Chris Godwin’s return from a dislocated ankle turned out to be short-lived.

The receiver played against the Eagles and Seahawks the past two weeks, but a fibula injury will keep him out of Sunday’s game against the 49ers.

It’s a new injury in a different area from the ankle Godwin dislocated last October against the Ravens and that required a grueling recovery that took 11 months.

He is expected to be week to week depending on how he progresses. There are no plans for him to go on injured reserve at this time.

The Bucs will be without their top two all-time leading receivers Sunday, as Mike Evans will miss at least another game with a hamstring injury.

In two games this season, Godwin has struggled to shake off the rust. Targeted 14 times, he caught only six passes for 52 yards and no touchdowns. His longest reception went for just 13 yards.

But Godwin wasn’t eased back into action, playing 79% of the offensive snaps against the Eagles and Seahawks.

He isn’t the only starter the Bucs will be missing.

In addition to running back Bucky Irving, who could miss 1-2 more weeks with foot/shoulder injuries, cornerback Zyon McCollum is out with a thumb injury suffered two weeks ago against Philadelphia. He wore a cast on his left hand Wednesday.

Rookie running back Josh Williams is out with a concussion. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) was working with a trainer during the portion of practice open to the media Friday and also will not play.

The Bucs will get cornerback Jamel Dean (hip) back for the game. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who was limited Thursday with a right shoulder injury, was back practicing on Friday.
